Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment is the single most popular dental treatment the world over. It is a treatment used to rehabilitate teeth where dental decay has penetrated the dental pulp and conservative teeth fillings are not an option anymore. It is safe, it is painless and it is fast. It is also the treatment that is most frequently performed, we also do single visit root canal treatments.

Root canal therapy (RCT) is usually the best way to clear infections in a tooth’s root canal. During the root canal procedure, your dentist or endodontist will clean out the infected root canal and then seal it to prevent future infections.
If left untreated, an infected root canal, and subsequent abscessed tooth, can cause one or more of the following:

Swelling that could spread to other areas of the face
Bone loss around the tip of the root
Drainage that can ooze into the gums and sometimes through the cheek into the skin
Pain, swelling, sensitivity, pressure, these are all signs that may tell you that a root canal might be needed. More directly, they are symptoms of a problem located in the inner chamber of a tooth. Often, infection in pulp tissue results from a cavity that has been left untreated. As bacteria move inward, these microorganisms destroy healthy tissue. The good news is that pulp is not a necessity for fully developed teeth. Removing pulp in the root canal procedure eliminates infection and pain and allows us to preserve the natural tooth structure.

Our caring dentists and endodontists will ensure that your root canal therapy care extends beyond the procedure and will help manage any post-procedure pain you may have. To help with root canal recovery, you may be prescribed pain relievers or an antibiotic depending on the status of the remaining pulp and the amount of swelling.
